In order to understand the success of in-store marketing initiative it’s important to understand the customers interest and actions. There are a variety of ways to monitor customer activity and the components section of this guide will cover the hardware required.

Before that, consideration needs to be given to what information is needed, typical examples include:

  • Footfall within the store, hourly and daily
  • Traffic flow by area
  • Customer journey tracking
  • Dwell times
  • Interactivity with the product
  • Facial recognition for gender and age analysis

nb: In Europe any use of customer data must be incompliance with EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into force in May 2018. This means personal data obtained instore must be anonymised before use.
